In many poorer countries in Africa, and increasingly throughout Asia and Eastern Europe, HIV/AIDS is beginning to reach disastrous proportions: in some countries over 10% of the population is infected, with the potential for numbers too frightening to contemplate by 2015. As the numbers increase, HIV/AIDS threatens to become a political time bomb for many countries, as large segments of the population will demand costly treatment way beyond their means...or that of their government.
